Green Clinic field note

Birch cancer

рак берези

Birch cancer, bacterial dropsy or wet necrosis are caused by the phytopathogenic bacteria Erwinia multivora.

Affected species: birch
External signs of tree disease are very sparse crown with the presence of dry branches. On living branches the leaves are small, underdeveloped, yellowish in color, eventually falling off. Below the drying crown on the trunk appear water shoots, which also soon die. On the white bark of the trunk appear small spots, streams, dark brown, with a sour odor (containing pathogenic bacteria).
