Chestnuts have become a real symbol and decoration of the capital of Ukraine, but these magnificent trees are under threat from a dangerous pest – the woodworm. As a result of the damage, chestnuts can not only lose their aesthetic appearance, but also gradually die over the years. Syngenta’s specialists managed to find a successful solution to this problem in the course of fruitful cooperation with experts from the Green Clinic Research Centre for Plant Health and Ecosystem Planning. We are talking about the TreeCare\u00ae chestnut protection programme.<\/p>\n

As the portal AgroTimes<\/a> writes, referring to Serhiy Fedorov, a specialist at the Green Clinic, effective control of the chestnut tree moth eliminates one of the main stress factors for plants in the city. The tree will not need to spend additional energy to fight for survival.<\/p>\n

Why is Rivive\u2122 a successful solution for protecting chestnuts?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Such an impressive result was achieved thanks to the use of the natural product Rivaiw\u2122 manufactured by Syngenta. The main advantage of this insecticide is that it is completely safe for the environment and people. Unlike spraying the crown of a tree, the injection does not release the product into the air or spill over the surface, which creates a unique opportunity to target pests while avoiding environmental pollution and harm to other insects, including bees.<\/p>\n

Using a special microinjection applicator, the product is injected into the trunk of the plant. The applicator automatically calculates how many microdoses should be injected to protect the tree. Before starting the procedure, a Green Clinic specialist only measures the diameter of the chestnut trunk and enters this data into the applicator. The device then calculates the number of 10 mm holes to be drilled in the trunk.\u00a0 According to the experts, these holes are then filled with a substance and hygienically sealed with protective sleeves that are capable of complete biodegradation within 7-10 years. Such injections can be used only if the diameter of the plant trunk is at least 20 cm.<\/p>\n

Serhii Fedorov, phytopathologist at the Green Clinic, stressed that each case of chestnut protection is unique, and experts carefully analyze the situation at the planting location to achieve the best effect.<\/p>\n

Results of the TreeCare\u00ae programme<\/strong><\/p>\n

The TreeCare\u00ae programme has been successfully implemented in Ukraine for several years. Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done, but trees in Kyiv, Cherkasy, Dnipro, and Kherson have already been treated and, most importantly, reliably protected from diseases and stem pests.<\/p>\n

So there will certainly be more beautiful, healthy chestnuts to provide coolness and shade to residents and visitors of not only the Ukrainian capital but also other cities.<\/p>\n

We believe that after Ukraine’s victory in this terrible war, which destroys not only the lives of people and buildings, but also the environment, society will become more environmentally conscious.<\/p>\n
